Privacy
Registering a domain is an act of publication: the .gr registry puts the registrant on a public record, and no registrar can hide it. This page says what this website processes, what we hold in your workspace, and exactly what leaves us for the registry.

Three places your data lives
A .gr registration touches three systems, governed differently, and it is worth separating them before anything else:
- This website — domainwise.gr. Static marketing pages plus a live availability lookup. We are the controller and there is very little to control.
- Your workspace — app.domainwise.gr, inside CookieTrust. Your account, your registrant details, your domains and your invoices. We are the controller here too.
- The .gr registry — EETT, operated by ICS-FORTH. Once we submit an application, the registry processes the registrant data as its own independent controller, under its regulation and not under our instructions. We cannot withdraw, edit or erase data there on our own initiative.
What this website processes
domainwise.gr is a set of static files. There is no analytics, no advertising pixel and no tracking cookie on it, and nothing you read here is reported back to us.
Your browser preferences
Your language and light/dark choice are stored in your own browser's localStorage under nw-lang and nw-theme. They stay on your device, are never sent anywhere, and you can clear them with your browser's site data. Nothing you put in the cart is stored — it is held in memory and lost when you close the tab.
Availability searches
When you check a name, this page calls api.cookietrust.io, which asks the .gr registry whether that name is taken. The name you typed and the technical request data reach our API and, as a registry query, the registry. We use these calls to answer you and to stop abuse of the endpoint; we do not tie them to you or build a profile of what you searched for.
Server logs and fonts
The site is served by Cloudflare Pages, which processes the technical request data any web server sees — IP address, time, requested path, user agent — to deliver the page and protect it from attack. The page also loads its typeface from Google Fonts, so your IP address reaches Google when it does. We do not build profiles from any of this.
Messages you send us
This site has no contact form. Support runs as live chat inside your workspace, and privacy questions go to the address above. Either way, we keep that correspondence for as long as it takes to answer you and to keep a record of what was agreed.
What a .gr registration publishes
This is the part most registrars bury. The .gr registry publishes registrant details in a public WHOIS as a matter of registry policy, and there is no privacy proxy for Greek domains — not from us, not from anyone. Registering a .gr means accepting that the registrant is a matter of public record for as long as the domain exists.
Typically published: the registrant's name or organisation, the ΑΦΜ / VAT number, the administrative and technical contact details, the assigned nameservers, and the registration and expiry dates.
We show you the exact fields before a registration is submitted. If you would rather not publish personal details, register the name in the name of a company or use contact details you are content to make public — that decision has to be made before the application goes in.
What the workspace processes
Inside your workspace we hold:
- Account data — the names, email addresses and roles of the people in your workspace, and how they sign in.
- Registrant profiles — the name or organisation, ΑΦΜ, address and contact details that a .gr application requires. You enter these once and reuse them across domains.
- Your domains — the names you register, transfer or renew with us, their nameservers, their registry status and their expiry dates.
- Registry correspondence — the applications, transfer requests and status changes we exchange with EETT / ICS-FORTH on your behalf, kept so that both of us can see what actually happened to an application.
- Billing data — your invoicing details and a record of what you paid for. Card details are handled by Stripe and never reach our servers.
- Your Cloudflare connection, if you link one — the delegated access tokens Cloudflare issues to us, which accounts and zones they cover, and the DNS records we read and write on your instruction. The account is yours: Cloudflare is not our sub-processor for it, we hold only the access you granted, and disconnecting revokes it.
- Support correspondence — the live chat conversations you have with us about your domains.
Why we are allowed to
| What | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Registering, transferring, renewing and delegating your domains | Performance of our contract with you |
| Submitting registrant data to the .gr registry | Contract, plus the registry rules that make that data mandatory |
| Invoices and accounting records | Legal obligation |
| Expiry reminders about domains you hold | Contract — they are service messages, not marketing |
| Keeping the service secure and stopping abuse | Our legitimate interest in a service that stays up and is not abused |
| Product news and offers by email | Your consent, withdrawable at any time |
Who else is involved
These are our sub-processors. Each one is bound by a contract that limits it to processing data on our instructions.
| Sub-processor | What for | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | Serving this website, DNS and protection against attacks | Global edge network |
| Hetzner Online | Application and database hosting | EU |
| Stripe | Card payments and invoices | EU / USA |
EETT / ICS-FORTH is not a sub-processor. The registry is a separate controller with its own regulation, and sending it your registrant data is the whole point of a registration — it is not something we could contract away. We will tell you before adding a sub-processor that handles your registrant or domain data.
How long we keep things
- Registrant profiles and domain records — for as long as the domain is managed in your workspace, and afterwards for as long as we may need to show who asked for what.
- Registry correspondence — kept with the domain record, because a disputed transfer or assignment can be raised long after it happened.
- Billing records — kept for as long as tax and accounting law requires.
- Support correspondence — kept while it is useful for supporting you, then deleted.
- After you close your account — your workspace data is deleted, other than what we must keep by law. Data already published in the .gr WHOIS is the registry's to keep, and closing an account with us does not remove it.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask for a copy of your personal data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to processing, ask for it in a portable form, or withdraw a consent you gave.
Write to [email protected] and we will answer within one month. One limit is worth stating plainly: while a domain exists, its registrant data cannot be erased. The registry requires it and publishes it. What you can do is correct it, transfer the domain to another registrant, or let it go — and we will help with any of those.
You can also complain to a supervisory authority — in Cyprus, the Office of the Commissioner for Personal Data Protection; in Greece, the Hellenic Data Protection Authority; or the authority in your own country.
Security
Traffic is encrypted in transit, registry credentials are held by the service and never exposed to the browser, access to production data is limited to the people who operate the service, and administrative actions are logged. If a breach affects your data, we will tell you.
Changes
If we change this page in a way that matters, we will update the date at the top and, for material changes affecting customers, tell you in the app or by email.
