Which names are allowed
A .gr name is written in Latin letters, digits and hyphens. For a Greek word, use its Greeklish spelling. Names in Greek characters use the .ελ extension instead.
What "available" means
An availability check is a snapshot, not a reservation. A name is only yours once the registry assigns it, and a name that was free when you searched can be taken before you complete the registration. Registration takes up to 5 working days, because the registry assigns the name, not the registrar.
What .gr WHOIS shows
The .gr registry publishes registrant details in a public WHOIS, and there is no privacy proxy for Greek domains. It typically shows the registrant's name or organisation, the ΑΦΜ / VAT number, the administrative and technical contacts, the nameservers, and the registration and expiry dates. The registry's own lookup is at grweb.ics.forth.gr.
If the name is taken
