How to transfer a .gr domain

Moving a .gr to a new registrar is free, keeps your expiry date, and needs one code that EETT emails to you. Here is the whole process, and what changes when the new registrar is Domainwise.

Before you start

The authorisation code goes to the registrant email address recorded for the domain, so check you can read that mailbox. If the address is out of date, ask your current registrar to update it first: the .gr registry takes changes to registrant details through the registrar.

Anyone can hold a .gr. The registry grants names to any person or company, Greek or foreign, wherever they are established.

Step by step

  1. Start the transfer. Sign in to your workspace at app.domainwise.gr, open Transfer and enter the .gr domain.
  2. Request the authorisation code. EETT emails it directly to the registrant email address. If you're not sure where to request it, our live chat walks you through it.
  3. Give us the code. We submit the transfer to the .gr registry with it.
  4. Done. The domain appears in your workspace with the same expiry date, and auto-renew with reminders at 60, 30 and 7 days keeps it alive.

What it costs

The transfer itself is free at Domainwise. What matters is the renewal after it: every renewal here costs 15€ for two years, the final price with no VAT added, and it stays the same every time. A typical Greek registrar renews a .gr for about 37€ for two years.

Questions

Do I need an authorisation code to transfer a .gr?

Yes. The registry requires the domain's authorisation code for every change of registrar. EETT emails it directly to the registrant email address.

Does a transfer change my expiry date?

No. A change of registrar doesn't change the domain's term, so the time you've already paid for carries over. Adding two years during the transfer is optional.

How much does it cost to transfer a .gr to Domainwise?

Can I move my domain away from Domainwise later?

Yes. Transferring away is your right: we don't charge for it and we won't obstruct it.
