Do you need to live in Greece or the EU?
No. The .gr registry's rules give the right to a .gr or .ελ name to every natural and legal person, Greek or foreign, regardless of where they are established. You may read elsewhere that you need an EU address or an EU company. The registry's own rules say otherwise.
What you need
- Accurate registrant details: your name or your company's, and your contact details. The registry treats false or outdated details as grounds to revoke a name.
- An email address you read. The registry sends confirmations about your domain there, including the authorisation code if you ever transfer it.
- A name in Latin characters. A .gr is written in Latin letters, digits and hyphens. Names in Greek characters use the .ελ extension instead.
What gets published
Registrant details for a .gr are published in a public WHOIS by registry policy, and there is no privacy-proxy option for Greek domains. Domainwise shows you exactly which fields will be published before you complete a registration.
